Son of Suspected Assassination Plotter Arrested
The son of Ryan Wesley Routh, suspected in the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump in Florida, has been arrested on federal charges. Oran Alexander Routh is accused of possessing child sexual abuse images.
Arrest and Investigation
Oran Routh was arrested in Greensboro, North Carolina, after authorities searched his home in an unrelated investigation. During the search, the FBI found hundreds of files containing child sexual abuse images. They discovered videos sent to Oran in July and chat messages from a known messaging app used to share such material.
Charges and Court Appearance
Oran Routh faces two charges: possession and receipt of child sexual abuse material. He is expected to appear in federal court in North Carolina. No lawyer was listed for him, and family members could not be reached for comment.
Father Charged in Assassination Attempt
Oran’s father, Ryan Wesley Routh, was charged with federal gun offenses related to the attempted assassination at Trump’s Florida golf course earlier this month. Prosecutors are expected to pursue more serious charges against him.
Authorities said Ryan Routh left behind a note outlining his plans to assassinate Trump and kept a list of Trump’s appearances in his car. He was arrested after being spotted by a Secret Service agent with a rifle aimed at the former president. He is currently charged with illegal firearm possession despite prior felony convictions, but additional charges are likely.
